Description
Pebble Beach Rolex by Barbara Snyder
This clock stands just outside the pro shop in the main clubhouse complex at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Course.
It has been standing there for as long as I can remember. It says 1919 on the clock but I'm not sure if that means the clock has been there that long.
Pebble Beach is home to the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour.
The course is owned by a group of American investors that include Arnold Palmer, Peter Ueberroth and Clint Eastwood.
An investor from Japan bought the course for and estimated $850 million with the intent of selling ownership in it and making the now public course, private. The plan failed when they found out that the State Of California and the local Coastal Commission would not allow them to shut down several public access trails that actually run through the course to the ocean. They sold it for loss of $300 million to a Japanese golf resort company. They in turn sold it to the current group that has made a commitment to make sure it never again falls into foreign ownership and that it will for ever stay a public course.
Pebble Beach is a permanent member of the top 100 golf course in the world and has been rated number in in the world several times.
